In the North-West of the island of Zakynthos (Greece) is one of the most beautiful beaches. It is a small beach which is accessible only from the sea. On three sides it is surrounded by forbidding rocks, however, despite the inaccessibility there is always a lot of tourists.

На северо-западе острова Закинф (Греция) расположен один из самых красивых пляжей. Это небольшой пляж, на который можно попасть только с моря. С трёх сторон он окружён неприступными скалами, однако несмотря на недоступность здесь всегда много туристов. 

The beach is one of the obligatory places to visit. Such popularity is due to the fact that this bay is a list of the most beautiful places on Earth. Right on the beach is the skeleton of the ship on which background gladly photographed numerous tourists. According to legend - a ship of smugglers. Therefore, sometimes it's a place called the Smuggler's Cove.

Пляж входит в число обязательных мест для посещения. Такая популярность объясняется тем, что эта бухта входит в список самых красивых мест на Земле. Прямо на пляже лежит остов корабля, на фоне которого с удовольствием фотографируются многочисленные туристы. По легенде – это корабль контрабандистов. Поэтому иногда это место называют бухтой контрабандистов.

This is all very romantic, but few people think about the tragedy of this ship.....

Все это очень романтично, но мало кто задумывается о трагедии этого корабля…..

It was a difficult year. Fish withdrew from their usual places, and networks is increasingly raised empty. Money quickly melted. Last time, having filled the fuel tank completely, the captain waited for the weather to the last exit to the sea. And suddenly in the tavern for him at the table sat a stranger and offered to deliver the contraband cargo. The money was offered a good, but a prerequisite was sailing on the same day. The captain, a little reflection, offered to meet in two hours to talk with the team.

Это был трудный год. Рыба ушла из своих обычных мест и сети все чаще поднимались пустыми. Деньги быстро таяли. Последний раз, полностью заправив топливный бак, капитан ждал погоды для последнего выхода в море. И неожиданно в таверне к нему за столик подсел незнакомый человек и предложил доставить контрабандный груз. Деньги были предложены хорошие, но обязательным условием было отплытие в этот же день. Капитан, немного поразмыслив, предложил встретиться через два часа, чтобы переговорить с командой.

Decided to take a chance.

 The sea was rough, and the captain was hoping to use the bad weather to slip past the guard boats.

Море штормило, и капитан надеялся воспользоваться непогодой, чтобы проскочить мимо пограничных катеров.

Start of sailing were favorable, but on the way to the island of Zakynthos wind increased.

Начало плавания было благоприятным, но на подходе к острову Зикинф ветер усилился.

 The turbulent sea made a strong impression, reminding mountainous terrain with white tips. Messy waves were breaking over the ship. Huge waves hit the ship, shaking his whole insides.

Бурное море производило сильное впечатление, напоминая гористую местность с белыми вершинами. Беспорядочные волны обрушивались на корабль. Огромные волны налетали на судно, сотрясая все его нутро.

 And soon the storm was raging in full force. The ship shook from the shock waves. The roar of the wind, crashing waves - it seemed a small ship is not to survive.

И скоро уже шторм бушевал в полную силу. Корабль сотрясался от ударов волн. Рёв ветра, грохот волн – казалось, маленькому кораблю здесь не выжить.

 Wind billowing big waves. The storm delayed and the captain took a closer to the land, to avoid the terrible cross waves.

Ветер вздымал большие волны. Шторм затягивался  и капитан взял ближе к суше, чтобы избежать ужасных перекрёстных волн.

 The waves rose higher, higher, higher, until no longer nothing could keep this mountain water, and it seemed only waiting to descend on their prey and swallow the ship in his fury erupted.

Волны вздымались все выше, выше, выше, пока уже больше ничто не могло поддерживать эту гору воды и она казалось только выжидала, чтобы обрушиться на свою жертву и поглотить корабль в своей захлёстывающей ярости.

 And at that moment terrible happened - the ship lost control and suffered directly at the cliffs. The team left the ship in panic in a vain attempt to escape on a boat. And only the captain did not leave the ship.

И в этот момент случилось страшное – корабль потерял управление и его понесло прямо на отвесные скалы. Команда в панике покидала судно в тщетной надежде спастись на шлюпке. И только капитан не покидал борт судна.

 The loss of the cargo, the ship, the horror of the consequences – all this in an instant flashed in his head. He calmly watched as a small team to get into the boat, automatically abandoned their attempts to persuade to join them.

Потеря груза, корабля, ужас последствий – все это в одно мгновение пронеслось в его голове. Он равнодушно смотрел, как немногочисленная команда грузиться в лодку, машинально отказался от их попыток уговорить сесть с ними.

 Stood up to the inactive helm and watched silently as the waves relentlessly carry the ship on the sea cliff.

Встал к недействующему штурвалу и молча смотрел, как волны неумолимо несут корабль на береговые скалы.

But as though the sea had decided to extend his ruthless game. At the last moment, circled the ship around the Cape and threw on a sandy beach in the tiny Bay. From hitting the captain lost consciousness.

Но море словно решило продлить свою беспощадную игру. В последний момент обвело корабль вокруг мыса и выкинуло на песчаный пляж в крошечной бухте. От удара капитан потерял сознание.

When he regained consciousness, no trace of the storm. . Sore broken head. Tried to get up, but nothing came of it – had a broken arm and leg. With difficulty the captain could sit down. On three sides above the beach hanging cliffs, and right in the door watched the azure sea....

Когда он очнулся, от шторма не осталось и следа. Сильно болела разбитая голова. Попытался подняться, но ничего не вышло – была сломана рука и нога. С трудом капитан смог сесть. С трёх сторон над пляжем нависали отвесные скалы, а прямо в дверь смотрело лазурное море….

Gradually consciousness took from the captain, and soon death came into this heavenly place.

Постепенно сознание ушло от капитана, и скоро пришла смерть в это райское место.

 So, sometimes the simple things - the wrecked ship, tourist attractionon which background so nice to be photographed, is worth a tragedy ....

Вот так, иногда за простыми вещами – разбитый корабль, туристская достопримечательность, на фоне которой так приятно сфотографироваться, стоит трагедия….

In the small village of Rocamadour, which is attached to a cliff on the steep bank of the river valley Also, we arrived when the sun was beginning to set behind the surrounding hills. During the Paleolithic era local aborigines found here their refuge. According to one version, the name Rocamadour (Rocamadour) comes from the word Rocamajor – great shelter under a rock overhang.

In the second half of the 12th century the settlement was Christianized, and in the same time appeared the legend of the Holy Amadora. In 1166 at the funeral of a local resident was found to be incorrupt body, subsequently presented as the remains of St. Amadora. So Rocamadour has its own Ghost. And in 1618 on the map of the Diocese of Cahors the name – Rocamadour (Roquemadour). In 1148 it was announced about the first miracle and from this time attracted crowds of pilgrims to worship the virgin Mary. By order of the Abbot Jareau Escorial began the construction of religious buildings, the construction of which was completed at the end of the XII century. There is mention of the construction of a chapel in 1105 on a rocky cliff, which was called "Rupis Amatoris".

By the end of the 12th century Rocamadour became a renowned centre of Christian pilgrimage and now takes pride of place in many places of cult worship of the virgin Mary. Among the famous pilgrims English king Henry II, the military leader of the crusade against the Albigenses, Simon de Montfort, Blanca of Castile (Princess of Castile, wife of Louis VIII and Queen of France), the saints Dominic and Bernard. Subsequently, during the religious wars in France, the parish in 1562 in Rocamadour led to the destruction of religious sites and the destruction of their relics. The relics were desecrated and destroyed, including the body of St. Amadora. The stories of the witnesses, the captain of the Protestant Jean Bessone broke power forging hammer saying: "If you don't want to burn, I'll split". Once again the sanctuary of Rocamadour were looted during the French revolution.

By the early nineteenth century of the sanctuary of Rocamadour was in a state of decline, through the rungs of the ladder sprouted trees, the majority of traders went out of Rocamadour. 

The revival of Rocamadour began in the second half of the nineteenth century. The works were supervised by the Abbot Jean-Baptiste Cheval. In the late summer of 1872 the reconstruction work was completed.

К началу XIX века святилища Рокамадура находились в состоянии полного упадка, сквозь ступени лестницы проросли деревья, большая часть торговцев уехала из Рокамадура.

Возрождение Рокамадура  началось во второй половине XIX века. Работами руководил аббат Жан-Батист Шеваль. В конце лета 1872 года восстановительные работы были завершены.

According to its popularity in France, Rocamadour is ranked fifth, second only to the island of Mont Saint-Michel, Carcassonne, Eiffel tower and Versailles.

По своей популярности во Франции Рокамадур занимает пятое место, уступая только острову Мон-Сен-Мишель, крепости Каркасон, Эйфелевой башне и Версалю.

Probably, and for us this place would have remained in memory as one of the medieval towns that abound in the land of France, if we do not come into it late in the evening. It is a night and gave us the opportunity in full force to experience the Holiness of this place.

As we settled in the hotel and had dinner, fell on the city dense black night. So further exploration of the city took place under its protection. Around boiling normal tourist life: people sitting in cafes and restaurants, wandered through the souvenir shops. Outside on the square were the musicians – playing jazz and rock.

Вероятно, и для нас это место осталось бы в памяти, как один из средневековых городков, которыми так богата земля Франции, если бы мы не приехали в него поздно вечером. Именно ночь и дала нам возможность во всей силе ощутить всю святость этого места.

Пока мы селились в отеле и ужинали, на город опустилась плотная черная ночь. Так что дальнейшее знакомство с городом проходило под ее покровом. Вокруг кипела обычная туристическая жизнь: люди сидели в кафе и ресторанах, бродили по сувенирным лавочкам. На открытой площади выступали музыканты – играли джаз и рок.

Its crooked streets, bathed in the yellow light of lanterns, we went to the majestic staircase that leads to the Basilica Saint-Sauveur, and the crypt of St. Amadora (world heritage UNESCO), to the chapels of St. Anne, St. Blaise, St. Jean Baptiste, the chapel of our lady (it is a statue of the black Madonna) and St. Michael. Above all this stands the Palace complex of the bishops of Tulle. Looking back from the height of the stairs, unwittingly imbued with respect for the faith of people who walked the road on his knees (216 steps). Nowadays, it happens infrequently.

Its popularity Rocamadour owes more to Amadora the relics of the Saint, and the miracles of the black Madonna, whose bell miraculously proclaimed his tinkling of the incident the rescue of the sailors of the sea. The Catholic Church also contributes to the attraction of pilgrims to Rocamadour through the provision of full indulgences to those pilgrims who got in Rocamadour sacraments of confession and communion. The most famous are the large remission of sins (grand pardon), which are held in those years when the feast of the Body and blood of Christ coincides with the day of the Nativity of John the Baptist (24 June). In the days of the big Otpusti when granted the remission of all sins, in Rocamadour gathers about 30 000 people.

Католическая церковь также способствует привлечению паломников в Рокамадур благодаря предоставлению полной индульгенции тем паломникам, которые получили в Рокамадуре таинства покаяния и причастия. Самыми знаменитыми являются большие отпущения грехов (grand pardon), которые проводятся в те года, когда праздник Тела и Крови Христовых совпадает с днём Рождества Иоанна Крестителя (24 июня). В дни больших отпущений, когда даруется отпущение всех грехов, в Рокамадуре собирается около 30 000 человек.

But the fun started when we embarked on "the Way of the cross". The winding road went up the hill, vanishing in the darkness. But as soon as we took a few steps – turn on the lights and we saw the trail ending in a small platform – "First standing on the way of the Cross". So we climbed from one stand to the other in complete silence and darkness, until they reached the "cross of the crusaders". Way of the cross was spread out below us, winding snake of lights.

Но, самое интересное началось, когда мы ступили на «Дорогу крестного пути». Извилистая дорога уходила вверх в гору, теряясь в темноте. Но как только мы сделали несколько шагов – включилось освещение и нашему взору открылась тропа заканчивающаяся небольшой площадкой – «Первое стояние на Крестном пути». Так мы и поднимались от одного стояния до другого в полной тишине и темноте, пока не добрались до «Креста крестоносцев». Крестный путь расстилался под нами извилистой змейкой огней.

First. Jesus is sentenced to death. MT. 27:22-23,26: then saith Pilate unto them, what shall I do then with Jesus which is called Christ? They all said to him, let him be crucified. The Governor said, why, what evil has He done? But they cried out exceedingly, saying, let him be crucified. Then he released to them Barabbas, but Jesus he flogged and delivered to be crucified.

Первое. Иисуса приговаривают к смерти. Мф. 27:22-23,26: Пилат говорит им: что же я сделаю Иисусу, называемому Христом? Говорят ему все: да будет распят. Правитель сказал: какое же зло сделал Он? Но они еще сильнее кричали: да будет распят. Тогда отпустил им Варавву, а Иисуса, бив, предал на распятие.

Second. Jesus takes up his cross. MT. 27:27-31: Then the soldiers of the Governor took Jesus into the Praetorium and gathered the whole regiment and they stripped Him, and put on Him a scarlet robe, and platted a crown of thorns, they put it upon his head and gave his right hand a cane; and, becoming the knee before Him, mocked Him, saying hail king of the Jews! and they spit upon Him, and took the reed, and smote Him on the head. And when they had mocked Him, they took the robe off Him, and put His own clothes on Him, and led Him away to be crucified.

Второе. Иисус берёт крест свой. Мф. 27:27-31: Тогда воины правителя, взяв Иисуса в преторию, собрали на Него весь полк, раздев Его, надели на Него багряницу; и, сплетши венец из терна, возложили Ему на голову и дали Ему в правую руку трость; и, становясь пред Ним на колени, насмехались над Ним, говоря: радуйся, Царь Иудейский! и плевали на Него и, взяв трость, били Его по голове. И когда насмеялись над Ним, сняли с Него багряницу, и одели Его в одежды Его, и повели Его на распятие.

Third. Jesus falls the first time under the cross.

Третье. Иисус падает в первый раз под крестом.

Fourth. Jesus meets his Mother

Четвертое. Иисус встречает свою Мать.

Fifth. Simon of Cyrene helps Jesus to carry the cross. MT. 27:32: Going out, they met a man of Cyrene, Simon by name; him they compelled to bear His cross.

Пятое. Симон Киринеянин помогает Иисусу нести крест. Мф. 27:32: Выходя, они встретили одного Киринеянина, по имени Симона; сего заставили нести крест Его.

Sixth. St. Veronica wipes the face of Jesus.

Seventh. Jesus falls the second time beneath the cross.

Седьмое. Иисус падает во второй раз под крестом.

Eighth. Jesus meets the weeping women. LK. 23:28-31 Jesus turning unto them, said, daughters of Jerusalem! weep not for Me, but weep for yourselves and for your children, for the days are coming in which they shall say, blessed are the barren, wombs that never bore, and Breasts which never nursed! then shall they begin to say to the mountains: fall on us! and to the hills, cover us! For if these things in a green tree it does with dry that will be?

Восьмое. Иисус встречает плачущих женщин. Лк. 23:28-31: Иисус же, обратившись к ним, сказал: дщери Иерусалимские! не плачьте обо Мне, но плачьте о себе и о детях ваших, ибо приходят дни, в которые скажут: блаженны неплодные, и утробы неродившие, и сосцы непитавшие! тогда начнут говорить горам: падите на нас! и холмам: покройте нас! Ибо если с зеленеющим деревом это делают, то с сухим что будет?

Ninth. Jesus falls the third time under the cross.

Девятое. Иисус падает в третий раз под крестом.

Tenth. Jesus deprived of clothing. MT. 27:33-36: And they came to a place called Golgotha, which means skull place, they gave Him vinegar to drink mingled with gall; but after tasting it, he refused to drink it. When they had crucified Him they divided up his clothes by casting lots; and sitting down they watched Him there.

Десятое. Иисуса лишают одежды. Мф. 27:33-36: И, придя на место, называемое Голгофа, что значит: Лобное место, дали Ему пить уксуса, смешанного с желчью; и, отведав, не хотел пить. Распявшие же Его делили одежды его, бросая жребий; и, сидя, стерегли Его там.

Eleventh. Jesus nailed to the cross. MT. 27:37-42: and they put up over His head the accusation written against Him: This is Jesus the king of the Jews. Then crucified with Him two thieves: one on the right side and another on the left. Those who reviled Him, wagging their heads and saying, Destroy the temple and build it in three days! save thyself; if Son Thou art of God, come down from the cross. Likewise also the chief priests with the scribes and Pharisees stareishini, mocking said: he saved others; Himself he cannot save; if He be the King of Israel, let him now come down from the cross and we will believe Him

Одиннадцатое. Иисуса пригвождают к кресту. Мф. 27:37-42: и поставили над головою Его надпись, означающую вину Его: Сей есть Иисус, Царь Иудейский. Тогда распяты с Ним два разбойника: один по правую сторону, а другой по левую. Проходящие же злословили Его, кивая головами своими и говоря: Разрушающий храм и в три дня Созидающий! спаси Себя Самого; если Ты Сын Божий, сойди с креста. Подобно и первосвященники с книжниками и старейшинами и фарисеями, насмехаясь, говорили: других спасал, а Себя Самого не может спасти; если Он Царь Израилев, пусть теперь сойдет с креста, и уверуем в Него.

Twelfth. Jesus dies on the cross. MT. 27:45-50,54: Now from the sixth hour there was darkness over the whole land until the ninth hour; and about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, Or, Or! Lama sabachthani? that is: my God, My God! why have You forsaken Me? Some of those standing there heard this, said, this man calls It. And straightway one of them ran and took a sponge, filled it with vinegar, and put it on a reed, gave Him to drink; others said, wait, let's see whether Elias will come to save Him. Jesus cried again with a loud voice, yielded up the Ghost. The centurion and those with him who were guarding Jesus, saw the earthquake and all that had been done, they feared greatly, saying, truly this was the Son of God.

Двенадцатое. Иисус умирает на кресте. Мф. 27:45-50,54: От шестого же часа тьма была по всей земле до часа девятого; а около девятого часа возопил Иисус громким голосом: Или, Или! лама савахфани? то есть: Боже Мой, Боже Мой! для чего Ты Меня оставил? Некоторые из стоявших там, слыша это, говорили: Илию зовет Он. И тотчас побежал один из них, взял губку, наполнил уксусом и, наложив на трость, давал Ему пить; а другие говорили: постой, посмотрим, придет ли Илия спасти Его. Иисус же, опять возопив громким голосом, испустил дух. Сотник же и те, которые с ним стерегли Иисуса, видя землетрясение и все бывшее, устрашились весьма и говорили: воистину Он был Сын Божий.

Thirteenth. Jesus is taken down from the cross Jn. 19:38: After these things Joseph from Arimathea — a disciple of Jesus, but a secret out of fear of the Jews — asked Pilate to remove the body of Jesus; and Pilate allowed it. He went and took the body of Jesus.

Тринадцатое. Иисуса снимают с креста Ин. 19:38: После сего Иосиф из Аримафеи — ученик Иисуса, но тайный из страха от Иудеев, — просил Пилата, чтобы снять тело Иисуса; и Пилат позволил. Он пошел и снял тело Иисуса.

Fourteenth. The body of Jesus lay in the tomb. MT. 27:59-61: And, taking the body, Joseph wrapped it in clean linen, and laid it in his own new tomb, which he had hewn out in the rock: and he rolled a great stone to the door of the sepulchre, and departed. And there was Mary Magdalene and the other Mary, sitting over against the sepulchre.

Четырнадцатое. Тело Иисуса кладут в гроб. Мф. 27:59-61: И, взяв тело, Иосиф обвил его чистою плащаницею и положил его в новом своем гробе, который высек он в скале; и, привалив большой камень к двери гроба, удалился. Была же там Мария Магдалина и другая Мария, которые сидели против гроба.

I can't say that I am a very religious person, but uphill in the quiet of the night, when you can't see where it will end, your path, paintings of stops of the Christ on the way to the place of crucifixion, all of these together created a feeling that you yourself become complicit in these events. Experienced this horror....

Я не могу сказать про себя, что я очень религиозный человек, но подъём в гору в тишине ночи, когда не видишь, где закончится твой путь, картины с изображениями остановок Христа на пути к месту распятия, все это вместе создавало ощущение, что ты и сам стал соучастником этих событий. Переживал весь этот ужас….

The next day in the sunlight once again, we come all this way. But such thrilling feelings already experienced. Too beautiful views opened our eyes, causing us to forget about the experience of night troubles.

На следующий день уже при свете солнца мы ещё раз проделали этот путь. Но такого волнующего чувства уже не испытали. Слишком красивые виды открывались нашему взору, заставляя забыть о пережитых ночных волнениях.
